Aids & Equipment for Older and Disabled People
Dudley Social Services has a duty to assess the needs of physically disabled children and adults. This is often carried out by an Occupational Therapist within the Disability Services Team.
The aim of occupational therapy intervention is to promote, encourage and maintain the independence of the individual. The needs of the disabled person’s carers are also of importance and therefore taken into consideration. The assessment is generally carried out in your own home and deals with your daily activities, from getting up to going to bed, and includes such things as toileting, dressing and household tasks.
The result of the assessment could be one of a number of solutions:
Advice on a different way to perform a task.
Provision of a piece of equipment to achieve a task. This could be a simple item such as a walking aid or a major item such as a bath lift to enable you to get in and out of the bath safely.
