Finding Somewhere To Live

Most adults with a learning disability live in their family home.  Where this is no longer possible, the Directorate of Adult, Community and Housing Services can help you to find somewhere to live with support.  This could be:

  • Living on your own or with friends in a flat or house

  • Living in sheltered accommodation with people of your own age.

We will assess your needs and will work with a Housing Association to ensure you have a choice about where you live.  Your housing can be adapted for you if you have a physical disability.

This means that you will be a tenant of an ordinary house or flat, but you will get support from a care team.  For some this may mean continuous 24 hour support; others who are more independent will need less support.
