Short Breaks
Many people with a learning disability live with their family. Sometimes it helps for people and their families to have a break from each other. Short breaks are available for people with a learning disability to give their carers a well-deserved rest.
There are a number of ways that people can have a break:
- Having support workers to help them to go out and do something they like
- Having someone to stay in the home while the carer goes out
- Staying overnight with another family
- Staying overnight at Alphonsus, or in a residential home
- Staying overnight at in the short-break unit at Ridge Hill hospital
We do an assessment to help us decide with you how often you will need a short-break. Each stay is then arranged between the family and the manager of the unit.
Short breaks can also be offered at short notice in an emergency. See
CTLD for contact details.
