Valuing People

Valuing People: “A new strategy for learning disability for the 21st Century” was published in March 2001. This document sets out the Government’s suggestions for improving the lives of people with learning disabilities and their family and carers.

The document is based on 4 main beliefs:

  • All people with learning disabilities have the same rights as other citizens.
  • Public services should provide people with a learning disability including those with severe and profound disabilities with the support needed for independence.
  • People with learning disabilities should be able to make real choices.
  • People with learning disabilities should be fully included in their local community

Who can get help?

We work with people with moderate or severe learning disabilities aged 18  and above. We also work with Carers who look after people with disabilities.

You can request help, advice, support or information from the Dudley Learning Disability Service.

In order to find out what services you need, a member of the Community Learning Disability Team will meet with you to carry out an assessment.
