What is Flipside?

Flipside is a type of short term fostering for young people with complex difficulties who need to be cared for away from their own families.

Flipside carers provide preventative special intensive care and therapy on a one-to-one basis.  It is based on social learning theory, developed in the US and is known as multidimensional treatment foster care.

Flipside is a reward system, which promotes positive behaviours and reduces those that aren’t.  Each young person has his or her own targets and programmes that are reviewed weekly.

Dudley has three programmes running simultaneously and is one of just a handful of local authorities that cover most age ranges: 3-6 year olds, 7-11 year olds and 12-16 year olds.

A Flipside placement usually lasts up to a year, and the aim is for young people to be able to return to their own families.
