Care in the Community

Community care services (home care services) are provided by social services, voluntary organisations and independent providers. The service is provided following an assessment of need undertaken by social services’ Adult Services Assessment Team. Home care services provide support to people in their own homes. The service operates 365 days of the year, 24 hours each day. Support is provided by trained home care assistants.

The primary objective of home care services is to actively promote independence and enable people to remain at home with the right support to meet their needs. The service also works closely with the housing department to provide support to residents in sheltered accommodation as an alternative to residential care.

Home care services are available throughout the Dudley borough.

The range of services offered:

Personal care – includes washing, shaving, advice on personal hygiene, dressing, toileting, continence care, feeding, administering medication and assistance to bed.

Practical tasks – such as laundry, shopping, food preparation, domestic help and collection of benefits are undertaken if the service user’s needs meet the eligibility criteria.

Home safety – is being improved by a safety officer who promotes a safe living environment by giving advice which minimises the risk of falls, crime, fire and accidents. Equipment is also supplied and fitted that increases a feeling of security and well being.
