Dementia - Information for people with dementia or their carers
People concerned that they may have memory or cognitive problems should first contact their GP for investigation of the cause. The GP can then refer if appropriate to a consultant psychiatrist in old age for early diagnosis and treatment.
The Community Mental Health Team for Older People may become involved, particularly in the later stages of dementia, providing the person and their carers with advice, information, practical help and access to relevant services. Telephone - 01384 244904/5
The Alzheimer’s Society provides valuable services, tailored to the particular needs of the person with any type of dementia, and to their carers. Contact: www.alzheimers.org.uk for Factsheet.
