Inspection Reports:  Care Homes and Care Homes Providing Nursing Care
All care homes and care homes providing nursing care must be registered with the Commission for Social Care Inspection (CSCI), the statutory regulator for these services.

CSCI inspects care homes to assess the quality of services and to raise standards of care to at least the level of published National Minimum Standards.  Each registered home generally receives a minimum of two inspections in any one year.  These inspections may be announced, when the care provider knows when the inspection will take place, or unannounced, when the inspection is a surprise visit.

After each inspection visit a report is written by the inspector detailing how the care home complies with the National Minimum Standards.  The care provider then has 28 days to respond to the report, after which time the report is published on the CSCI website, with the exception of Children’s Home and Adult Placement reports.  Reports are accessible at: www.csci.org.uk

Currently CSCI uses a four point scale to indicate the extent of compliance with National Minimum Standards:

  • 4 :  Standard exceeded (commendable)
  • 3 :  Standard met (no shortfalls)
  • 2 :  Standard almost met (minor shortfalls)
  • 1 :  Standard not met (major shortfalls)

0 or N/A indicates that a standard was not assessed or was not applicable at the time of inspection.
