What is it?

Counterweight is a unique free one to one weight loss service, offering empowerment and support in your weight loss journey. The programme consists of nine appointments over a 12 month period and aims to offer personalised weight loss and maintenance advice.

Why is it different?

Unlike many other weight management programmes, Counterweight is a one to one weight loss service. Sessions are run in two phases. Phase one of the programme will supply you with 6 appointments over 3 months. This is then followed by phase two where you will attend 3 maintenance appointments over 9 months – which is 1 year in total. The service is free of charge, but you will be expected to commit to attend all nine sessions. You will also be set a 5% weight loss target.

Who is it for?

The service is aimed at adults aged 18 and above who have a Body Mass Index (BMI) of 30 or above or 27.5 and above if of south Asian origin. Participants are required to be residents within the Dudley Borough. Participants with relevant cardiovascular related health conditions (confirmed by your GP) will be able to use this service if you have a BMI of 28 and above or 23 and above if of south Asian origin. This service is only suitable for people who have clearly stated that group weight management services are not suitable.

Where is it?

The programme is run at 22 pharmacies within the Dudley borough and at selected GP practices, please call 01384 814444 for more information about service locations.

Access

All venues offer disabled access, however some of the rooms used can only be accessed via a staircase. Reasonable adjustments will be made where possible.

If I join, what should I expect?

Each appointment you attend will last for 20 minutes. You will be weighed and measured. The Counterweight programme is unique so your advisor will customise the session with the topics that will aid your weight loss.

What happens if I work shifts?

We appreciate that shift workers may find attending the same session each week difficult. Every effort will be made to offer shift workers the opportunity to attend another Counterweight session, appointments can be arranged to suit the individual. In order to benefit from attending the Counterweight programme we do request that shift workers commit to attending a minimum of 7 sessions. You must declare if you are a shift worker before you start the Counterweight programme.
