Home energy information for tenants

If you’re feeling the pinch with your energy bills this Winter then help is at hand.

Dudley has teamed up with independent energy advisors Energyextra to provide housing tenants with help and practical advice on how to get the best service from your supplier as well as ways that you can be more energy efficient at home.

Energyextra has loads of tips on how to save energy, for instance you can save energy by:

  • Using the economy button on your washing machine (if it has one)

  • Making sure that filters are fluff free on your tumble dryer

  • Cooking with lids on your pans and making sure that pans match the size of the cooker ring

  • Boiling only the water that you need – not filling the kettle

  • Having a shower instead of a bath

  • Turning off taps when brushing your teeth or washing your hands

  • Drawing the curtains early in the evening and keeping doors shut

  • Blocking drafts on exterior and interior doors with draft excluders

  • Switching off lights which are not needed

Energyextra has also identified a preferred supplier for housing tenants based on unit costs and customer service results and if you sign up to their free service you could be eligible for a home visit.

Did you know that the type of meter that you have in your property and the way that you pay your bills could also have an effect on how much money you can save?

Card meters are not always the most economical form of metering and paying by direct debit could make you eligible for discounts from your supplier.

Remember that your supplier needs up to date meter readings in order to bill you accurately. Energyextra can show you how to read your own meter which could help prevent you getting into debt due to estimated readings.
