Bowling Green TRA

Bowling Green Tenants & Residents Association are a group of dedicated people who are committed to improving the area we live in for everyone.

We meet on a regular basis and welcome anyone from the Bowling Green area along to the meetings.  If you can't come along to meetings why not support your community in other ways?  Give us your comments, opinions and thoughts about how we can change things for the better.  You can do this by completing short surveys or joining in with other initiatives contact the Partcipation Development Team on 01384 815168 or email the Tenant Participation team.

Community Phone-Line
The TRA have a dedicated phone line (answer machine) that local people can call to raise concerns or issues that they may have relating to the area that we live in.  This service is being well received and the responce has been excellent.  If you wish to contact the Helpline you should ring 01384 831304.  The new phone-line is sponsored by Virgin Media.

The group work closely with our Housing Manager and Participation Development Officer and they give the group the support we need to move projects forward.  We have an excellent working relationship with the Police and have a thriving Neighbourhood Watch Scheme in the area.

Good News Stories:

MUGA
The Multi-use Games Area (MUGA) is now open, it was officially opened by Councillor Bryan Cotterill on 6th August 2008. The MUGA is located on land adjoining Netherbrook Primary school and is used by the school during the day and is open to the public after the school closes.  This initiative was a real partnership success.

MORE FUNDING!
The group have successfully obtained £9,500 from the 'Stronger Communities fund', this money will be used to enable us to organise in partnership with Ground Work Black Country, more Activity Weeks.  We will again be working with young people from across the area.  These activity weeks are going really well and the young people have a fantastic time.   If you want more information about the activities or projects that we are working on then contact the group through our Participation Officer, John Doughty or call 01384 818283.
The group have successfully obtained £10,000 to errect some fencing around the Black Horse playing fields, this funding will be matched by Dudley Council.  This is great news for everyone as this is something that the community have wanted for a long time.  Watch this space for more updates.

IN PARTNERSHIP
The TRA are working in partnership with Probation Services to improve the look of the Bowling Green area.  They are working with the TRA to clear overgrown, litter infested forgotten patches of land, the spaces are being cleared of rubbish and overgrown plants and shrubs to reveal a clean and well kept plot, this is really helping to improve the look of Bowling Green.

BREAKING NEWS!
The TRA in partnership with other groups from across the Netherton area have successfully obtained £8,000 in funding to carryout a 'BIG CLEAN-UP'.  The idea is that the community come together to clean-up our neighburhoods.
These Big Clean Ups have been a huge success and it is anticipated with the continued support of the planning group they can continue.

FOOD FOR THOUGHT
In December 2007 Operation Christmas Hamper swung into action in The Saltwells and Bowling Green Area. Ninety Six Christmas food bags were personally delivered to Senior Citizens in the area as part of a joint project involving Bowling Green Tenants and Residents Association, Saltwells Tenants and Residents Association, Groundwork Black Country, two local primary schools, the local church, Age Concern, local elected members and the Directorate of Adult, Community and Housing Services.
The project started with children at both Netherbrook Primary school and Dudley Wood primary school suggesting that it would be a good idea to hand deliver a food pack to Senior Citizens in the area. A request for donations of food to their parents was met with an overwhelming response with nearly 3000 items being received.

Thanks to the help of Councillor Bryan Cotterrill high quality bags to pack the gifts in were donated by the Co-Operative at Upper Gornal. These were packed by tenants’ volunteers and housing staff and delivered to 96 homes between 17th and 20th of December 07. These people were selected at random from a list provided by Age Concern, Social Services and Housing Managers.

Groundwork Black Country who have worked with both Tenant and Resident groups in the area on community development projects recruited some young people to help deliver the packs. From the photographs below you can see the warm reception that they received. After the Christmas break numerous phone calls and letters have been received thanking everyone involved for their kindness.
Chair of Bowling Green Tenants and Residents Association Martin Smith recently said “ we were overwhelmed by the amount of food local families donated and the reception we received from local senior citizens. This illustrates how by working together we can make our communities better places to live in”

Meetings Dates:

Committee Meeting:   14th January 2009

We welcome the support of the community and feel by working together we really can make a difference.

Many Thanks
