What are housing assoctions?
Housing associations, sometimes known as registered social landlords, are independent and not for profit organisations who work in partnership with the council to provide a range of affordable housing services which can include:
• rented
• specialist hostels
• shared ownership
• supported housing (for people in need of care e.g. frail older people)
• help and advice on buying homes
• sheltered housing (offering services to those who need some extra help to live independently)
Housing associations are regulated by the Housing Corporation (a government backed organisation) and have been set up to improve and develop housing services across England and Wales, particularly for
those households in housing need. Most housing associations have been operating for many decades.
They are also the main source of new affordable housing in Dudley.
