What is social housing?

Social housing is a term that is regularly used to mean all the different types of organisations that provide housing that is affordable, and who offer a number of types of housing such as rented, shared ownership,
sheltered and supported housing to name just a few. The organisations that provide social housing can be housing associations, registered social landlords (RSLs), housing trusts, and charities, as well as the local council.

Public perception of social housing can sometimes be confusing. Dudley Council together with the Dudley Housing Partnership have produced information to guide you through the complexities associated with social housing and in particular housing associations.

We hope we can explain to you in clear language what social housing actually means and the services the different organisations deliver. Use the links below to answer your questions and get more information.
