Dudley Council housing tenants are being offered help to move, if they want to downsize their home.
The new scheme is aimed at single tenants and couples who find they are living in a property which is now too large for their needs, or too hard to maintain. Changes in circumstances could be following children leaving home, relationship breakdowns or bereavements.
Many tenants find it beneficial to move to something smaller to help reduce bills, upkeep and maintenance. By moving from a four bedroom house to a one bedroom property tenants could reduce their bills by up to £2,000 a year. Many older tenants transfer into sheltered housing accommodation, where they can remain independent, but have help is at hand should they need it.
A dedicated housing officer will help tenants by putting together an individual assistance plan, which may include help with finding a suitable property or practical help with the move itself. All tenants moving from family houses to flats or one bedroom bungalows will also get high priority for a home of their choice.
To be eligible for this scheme, applicants need to be tenants of Dudley Council and live in a house with 3 or more bedrooms, and have their rent account up to date.
