Major plans to boost the care of older people in the Dudley borough have taken a step forward after work started on two new multi-million pound Extra Care Schemes.
Dudley Council is currently working on two schemes in Middlepark Road, Russells Hall, and Whitehouse Street, Coseley.
The £16million Russells Hall scheme will have 132 apartments and will provide a range of care for the over 55s.
The Coseley scheme is a £8 million project and will be made up of 72 apartments.
Both will be run by registered social landlord Midland Heart and will have one and two bedroom apartments with access to extensive communal facilities, such as a hair and beauty salon, a gym and a library.
Dudley residents will be able to choose whether to rent, buy or part-buy their new property.
Midland Heart has been working with Dudley Council for the past three years to realise its vision of providing affordable extra care housing to the region.
Both schemes are expected to be completed by 2011.
