Housing Services' aims and objectives

We aim to offer a high-quality, responsive, and efficient housing service to all our tenants and leaseholders. The Council also has a responsibility to offer help and advice to private tenants and homeowners. These two sides of our service are very different, but all the information you need to enquire about what services are relevant to you should be available here on our website. You can also access our services in person at one of our offices, and also a number of services are also avaialble through Dudley Council Plus. Our own contact centre, Dudley Borough Direct - 01384 818283 - is also in place to answer your enquiries and give you advice.

We hope that new initiatives currently underway will lead to us offering an even more efficient and customer-focused service. We are pleased by the ‘vote of confidence’ tenants recently gave us when they told us that they wished the Council to remain their landlord following our Use Your Voice, Make Your Choice consultation, but at the same time we are the first to admit that there is always room for improvement.

The Challenge

The challenge for us now will be how we work harder and more efficiently for you while also meeting the government’s Decent Homes Standard. For the next five years this will be our main priority. And while the Decent Homes Standard does not go as far as many of the priorities you have previously told us about, we will work to see if there are other ways of bringing in extra funding to try and carry out some of these extras as well.

Repairs

Our repairs service – meeting urgent and non-urgent repairs as quickly as possible – continues to be another top priority and new developments like the Repairs Handbook will help to spell this out. It will help both us and you to work more closely together.

Where work must take place to meet the Decent Homes Standard for example, over a phased period over the next five years, we promise to keep you informed at the earliest opportunity and will ensure that you are kept up to date about works going on around you.

We also want to place even greater emphasis on tackling problems around anti-social behaviour. As well as improving community safety and working closely in partnership with other agencies – such as the police, courts, and central government – we are developing new approaches to dealing with complaints of anti-social behaviour through services like mediation.
