Bogus Caller Hotline

 

We are asking tenants to notify us, through a dedicated telephone line, if they believe that Bogus Callers are operating in their area or if they think unscrupulous thieves have targeted them.

 

The contact number is 01384 812045 and is available 24 hours a day, every day of the year and is open to any concerned citizen in Dudley. This communication will allow Council staff to notify other likely victims to be targeted and to warm them to be more watchful when answering their door.

 

Unfortunately, bogus calling crime is on the increase across the country and is aimed primarily at older members of society. This crime generates fear and isolation across a wide cross section of the community, particularly as the perpetrators are highly mobile and appear to be normal.

 

The information received via the dedicated phone line will be fed straight through to sheltered housing employees who will notify tenants within their patch of the potential problem - alerting them, ensuring they are on their guard. Extra resources are being added to fight this crime as well as educational tools to notify residents of measures, which can be taken to protect themselves.
