Warmth at home

Dudley Council is committed to helping borough residents keep warm and snug in their homes, particularly through the winter months. Listed below is a range of information about schemes, initiatives and programmes all aimed at helping keep people warm and healthy at home.

Winter warmth fund

Winter Warmth Fund

For many people it’s a struggle to keep their home warm enough during winter and each year thousands of people die as a result of being cold. Our government winter warmth fund is here to help stop this happening. This fund is specifically to help vulnerable people stay warm and well during winter.

Winter warmth support provides expert advice and practical hands on support to help vulnerable people keep warm. Things like help with paying fuel bills, emergency warmth payments if your heating breaks down, even cold weather food parcels for people who can’t get out in cold weather, as well as regular visits from local befrinders to check on vulnerable people during the winter.

Winter warmth aims to help keep vulnerable people warm, well and in touch during the winter. Anyone concerned about getting cold themselves, or worried about a friend, relative or neighbour can call and request assistance.

Winter warmth support can be contacted on 01384 815117.

Fuel poverty

Warmth at home

Fuel poverty is defined as a household spending more than 10% of its household income to heat the home. This is usually due to a combination of low income, inadequate and expensive heating and a property that is either lacking good insulation such as loft and cavity wall or has low levels of loft insulation.

It is also important that residents consider how much they are paying to heat their home. Most energy companies are now committed to providing social tariffs for customers on a low income. Check out the main energy suppliers such as those mentioned below for more information on social tariffs or call the Dudley energy advice line for more details. You can also see more information on the attached document.
