Approved Traders (The Fix-A-Home Scheme)

Trading Standards Fix a home logo
Dudley Trading Standards run an approved trader scheme called the Fix-A-Home Scheme.

It is a list of trades people who have been vetted and selected as being able to carry out maintenance work, in your home, that is of good quality, at a reasonable and agreed price and carried out at an agreed time. Traders may have applied to go on the list or been suggested by satisfied customers. Please note that the price is not subsidised by anybody or discounted to users of the list.

The scheme is a partnership run by Dudley Trading Standards and Age UK Dudley.

Fix a Home Information
Dudley Trading Standards and Age Concern Dudley often get telephone calls from people who need someone to do repairs or small jobs to their homes. We decided to put together this list, which we call `Fix a Home` to meet this need. Further information on Fix-A-Home can be found on the Fix a Home Information webpage.

Advice about choosing a trade person

  • Always get at least three written quotes that list all of the work to be carried out.

  • Beware of people that only have a mobile telephone number and  do not have `proper` business documents that include an address.

  • Do not pay in advance, pay when the work is completely finished and you are satisfied.

  • Do not choose a contractor just because a generous guarantee is offered. A guarantee will be worthless if the trader goes out of business.

If you use one of the traders from our list, we would appreciate you completing a Customer Satisfaction Survey. Your comments will help us to ensure future clients benefit from the best we can offer.
