Disclosure of Relationships

Relatives of Members or Employees
 
A candidate for any appointment under the Council who knows that he/she is related to any member or employee of the Council, shall when making application, disclose the relationship.  A candidate who fails to disclose such a relationship shall be disqualified for the appointment and if appointed shall be liable to dismissal without notice.  Every member and employee of the Council shall disclose to the Chief Executive any relationship known to him/her to exist between him/herself and any person whom he/she knows is a candidate for an appointment under the Council.
 
The purpose of this Standing Order shall be brought to the attention of candidates for appointment.
 
For the purpose of this Standing Order a candidate shall be deemed to be related to a member or employee of the Council;
 
  • If he/she is the spouse of a member or employee of the Council, or is cohabiting on a similar basis
  • If the candidate, or his/her spouse or cohabitee, is the parent, grandparent, uncle, aunt, son, daughter, grandson, granddaughter, brother, sister, niece or nephew of a member or employee of the Council
  • and a relationship by marriage shall be regarded as a relationship by blood.
 
Note for Candidates
Where a candidate for appointment knows that he/she is related to a member or officer of the Council, it is the responsibility of the candidate to advise the relative of their application.
