Applicants with disabilities

All vacancies at Dudley Council display the ‘two ticks’ symbol indicating we are Positive About Disabled People.  This demonstrates we are committed to make certain positive contributions regarding the employment, retention, training and development of disabled people.

We guarantee that if a disabled candidate meets the person specification they will be offered an interview and considered on their abilities.  By displaying this symbol we show, when recruiting, we consider whether the person has the ability to do the job and what adjustments will need to be made to enable them to do the job.

We are also committed to providing current disabled employees with the opportunity to develop and use their abilities, and to make every effort to make sure that the disabled person stays in their employment.

Disability under the Disability Discrimination Act (1995) is defined as a mental or physical impairment which:

  • has an adverse effect on the person’s ability to carry out normal day-to-day activities

and:

  • if the adverse effect is substantial, and
  • if the adverse effect is long-term (it has lasted for 12 months, or is likely to last for more than 12 months or for the rest of the person’s life).
