Work experience at Dudley Council

It’s rewarding and valuable

Getting work experience is a win/win situation - you gain extra skills and the council gets someone passionate and committed to work with.

Access to Employment - work for people with learning disabilities and/or autism

There are also specialist services for people with learning disabilities and/or autism and other additional needs who are looking for work.

Archives and local history placements

Our Archives service offers work experience for students from schools, undergraduates and graduates.  Normally, work placements are for fairly short period of time, either one full time week or part time over several weeks. The main aim of this depends on the nature of the placement.

Work experience in Construction

Place Directorate can offer one week work experience placements, throughout the school year, within its Building Maintenance Division.

If accepted, students will be based at The Leys Depot, Brockmoor, Brierley Hill, DY5 3UP
and placed under the supervision of experienced “multi – skilled” operatives who carry out a variety of repairs and maintenance tasks in council owned properties across the Dudley area.  These tasks include plumbing, glazing, carpentry, replacing locks, plastering, bricklaying and tiling and would give a great opportunity to discover “first hand” what the repairs and maintenance trade involves.

A full risk assessment has been carried out to ensure safety and we also provide work boots and an overall.

Work experience advice

Doing work experience can bring you great rewards. Work experience gives you the chance to learn new skills and improve those you already have. You will be helping others at the same time...and helping yourself build a better future. Many people have moved into new types of work on the back of the work experience.
