Working in urban environment

The directorate of urban environment (DUE) employs more than 1700 people to deliver over 100 diverse services to more than 300,000 residents in the borough.  Services range from regeneration to refuse and regulatory services to sport and recreation. It operates from more than  50 sites including halls, museums, nature reserves, crematoria, depots and leisure centres.

The directorate is made up of four divisions and supported by an executive support team:

  • Culture and leisure

  • Planning and environment health

  • Economic regeneration and transportation

  • Environmental management

The directorate's mission is to improve the quality of life and well being of our community by:

  • improving prosperity through regeneration

  • improving our environment

  • protecting our communities

  • providing opportunities to participate in leisure and cultural activities

The directorate also has the Investor in People accreditation.
