Employment initiatives

The council works in partnership with employers and organisations in the area to increase job and training opportunities for residents of all ages.

Apprenticeship programme

There are two apprenticeship programmes available at Dudley Council:

Administration

The administration apprenticeship programme is a 12 month fixed term contract which aims to provide its apprentices with a broad based programme of vocational training and development.

It provides a planned programme of work experience leading to qualifications related to competence in the workplace.  This work experience will enable apprentices to apply for admin/clerical roles within the council.

Apprentices will be expected to complete two national vocational qualifications (NVQs), including admin level 2, customer service level 2 or IT level 2.

As part of the recruitment process, candidates will be asked to complete assessments and if successful they are invited for an interview. Places are decided on receipt of references.

Available vacancies are posted on the jobs search page on the council's website.

Construction

The construction programme covers trades such as carpentry, bricklaying, plumbing, plastering and electrical installation.

The aim of the construction trainees scheme is to provide a broad based vocational and educational training programme, plus planned work experience which gives people the opportunity to gain qualifications.

Each trainee will be given the opportunity to train up to NVQ level 3 in their main trade and up to NVQ Level 2 in a second trade.  Vocational education will be undertaken on either a day release or block release basis at a local college.

The programme lasts for up to five years and at the end of the programme, trainees are then able to apply  for trade vacancies but a job is not guaranteed.

Available vacancies are posted on the jobs search page on the council's website.
