Open Access Area Based Youth Work

Open Access area based youth work is delivered in five area based teams within the borough and managed by an area team leader.  Each area has a combination of types of youth work, including:

Youth Centres

The Youth Service is focussing its centre based youth work around 5 'hubs', one in each township.  The hubs are as follows:

The Source Youth Centre, Wordsley, Brierley Hill - 01384 813967

Valley Rd Youth Centre, Lye, Stourbridge - 01384 813956

Halesowen Youth Centre, Belle Vale, Halesowen - 01384 813914

Meadow Rd Youth Centre, Castle and Priory, Dudley Central - 01384 818235

Coseley Youth Centre, Coseley East, Dudley North - 01384 813922

The youth hubs provide a central network point for other clubs and youth projects enabling young people to access a wide scope of leisure and informal education activities.

Programmes include holiday provision, information advice and guidance on a number of issues such as sexual health and substance misuse, opportunities to take part in sports and other activities and access to a variety of alternative accreditations including Duke of Edinburgh Awards.

All the above is offered within a safe and welcoming environment that works with young people.

Trained youth workers aim to engage with young people on the streets and in public spaces such as parks.

Locations and projects often focus around areas identified as experiencing anti social behaviour issues with young people encouraged to participate in a range of positive activities.

We work alongside a range of partners who will include the Police, Park Rangers and Connexion PA's.

Work in schools

We run a wide range of alternative curriculum projects within schools.

Partnership work

Youth workers will also work in partnership with other agencies to deliver programmes for local young people.
