Your health will improve with more physical activity!
Why are we promoting activity?
Dudley Public Health, your local council and many local GP surgeries are dedicated to help you achieve the best possible health and quality of life.
This does not just mean looking after you when you are unwell, but also helping you to take positive steps which will improve both your physical and mental well-being and allow you to make the most of your life.
Although many people know that physical activity is good for them they are often unsure how to take the first steps to becoming more active. For this reason we are working together to offer you guidance and advice on how to increase your activity levels.
The Department of Health recommends that all adults take part in a minimum of 30 minutes of moderate physical activity, at least 5 times a week and we are here to help you achieve that.
The Sport and Physical Activity Service in partnership with the NHS Primary Care Trust are committed to improving the health of the people of Dudley. The partnership currently operates two schemes to encourage people to improve their health through activity.

Those eligible to join the scheme will be entitled to half price admission (selected activities - below) to any of the 5 Dudley Council Leisure Centres for a period of 3 months.

What are the benefits of becoming more active?
Being more active can help...
Make you feel more energetic and lively Improve your health and body shape Keep your muscles and bones strong Provide you with a sense of achievement Maintain your weight within a desirable range Keep your joints mobile Relieve stress and tension Provide an opportunity to meet new friends or renew acquaintances
NB After 3 months on Steps to Health customers cannot rejoin and therefore will pay the full price on activities, unless they are eligible to Options+ or join other Membership schemes.
2. Exercise Referral Programme
Dudley Council actively supports the Dudley Exercise Referral Programme, which is now available to all residents registered with a Dudley GP. Patients referred to either Halesowen or Crystal Leisure Centre (Stourbridge) benefit from a 12 week tailor made, supervised, fitness suite programme which allows them to access the gym at half price.
Following the initial 12 weeks patients are supported and advised to make their new active lifestyle a way of life. To support this patients who have successfully completed the 12 weeks in the fitness suite are offered the same benefits as the Steps to Health Programme.
Patients with a wide range of medical conditions have already benefited from the Exercise Referral Programme, which is now open to all patients. If you are concerned about your health and do not currently meet the Department of Health recommendation then book an appointment with your GP who will refer you to an appropriate participating centre/facility.
