The Black Country Sport & Physical Activity Awards 2011

Following on from the success of the Dudley Sport & Physical Activity Awards 2010 , the Black Country Sport & Physical Activity Awards 2011 was held on Thursday 6 October 2011 .

This years awards were hosted by Hugh Porter, BBC commentator on cycle events, He was joined by local sporting celebrities, in celebrating the Black Country's sporting excellence and helping to raise awareness and achievements

The winners are listed below:

  • Coach of the Year - Gavin Haynes, Dudley MBC Head Cricket Development Coach

  • Community Club of the Year - Wyrley Juniors FC (Walsall)

  • Community Team of the Year - RGK TCAT Rhinos - Wheelchair Basketball

  • Disabled Sportsperson of the Year - Jordanne Whiley - Wheelchair Tennis (Halesowen)

  • Junior Team of the Year - Sandwell Girls Athletics Team

  • Physical Activity Initiative of the Year - Dudley Healthy Towns - Multi Sport

  • Sportsperson of the Year - Jessica Varnish - Cycling

  • Sport Unlimited Project of the Year - Swimming Lessons - Children with Down's Syndrome (Walsall)

  • Unsung Hero Volunteer of the Year - Diane Davis - Tennis (Stourton)

  • Young Sportsperson of the Year - Maddison Moore - Karate - Dudley

  • Young Volunteer of the Year - Sam Johnson - Rugby (Wolverhampton)

  • Volunteer of the Year - Amy Baker - Swimming (Willenhall)

Dudley Sport & Physical Activity Awards 2010

Sporting achievers across Dudley borough have been honoured at the annual sport and physical activity awards on Thursday 18th March 2010 at the David Lloyd Leisure Club. Compere for the evening was Ed James from Heart FM Breakfast Show.

Over 100 people attended the Dudley Council event at David Lloyd Leisure Club on Thursday. The awards celebrated voluntary work and achievement in sport and included 11 trophies awarded to sporting groups and individuals from the borough.

The winners are listed below:

  • Sports Person of the Year - David Beardsmore: World Skeet Shooting Champion / England Captain

  • Sports Volunteer of the Year - Harilal Patel: Stourbridge Cricket Club

  • Senior Team of the Year - Stourbridge Football Club

  • Junior Team of the Year - Himley Cricket Club Under 10s and Under 12s

  • Health Promotion Initiative of the Year - Phases 

  • Coach of the Year - Bob Dillon: Lions Boxing Club and ABA High Performance Coach

  • Community Club of the Year - Dudley Special Olympics

  • Outstanding Contribution to Sport - Bob Fowkes: Halesowen Athletic and Cycling Club

  • Young Leader of the Year - Dudley Young Person

  • Disabled Sports Person of the Year - Daniel Jones: Dudley Special Olympics

  • Young Sports Person of the Year - Dudley Young Person

Councillor David Stanley, cabinet member for environment and culture, said:

“I would like to congratulate all of the award winners, for their hard work and dedication who are an inspiration to people from all across the borough to get involved in physical activity.

“The awards event is always fantastic and I am so pleased that so many people are giving their time to sport.”
