Each month Queen Pat will let you know, in her own words, what projects she’s been involved with and any plans for the future.
March was a busy month for me with Ladies Day in Lye as part of International Women’s Week and a storytelling fair at Crestwood Primary School.
The event for International Women’s Week was tremendous fun. There were craft activities, head massage, eyebrow threading, Chinese calligraphy and healthy lunches all co-ordinated by the Perfect Harmony ladies’ group.
Dudley Primary Care Trust was on hand to give advice about diet and exercise. The fire service was promoting free safety home checks, and there was also advice on women returning to work and the support available in terms of training and childcare options.
After watching a bellydancing demonstration I was called on to give a few tips to some of the ladies. Along with dancer Gultena Darmisi we taught eight ladies how to shimmy and sway.
Anyone wanting information on the ladies group or activities in the Lye area should contact Kathy Glazzard, community learning officer on 01384 813960 or Tremaine Herbert, Lye neighbourhood manager on 01384 812357
The storytelling fair at Crestwood Primary was exceptional. I was so impressed with the children who all joined in this very special day. They had created stories based on Black Country tales, making the history of the Black Country come to life for a whole new generation.
I’m hoping to head over to the St George’s Day celebration in Sedgley later in the month. Watch this space!
