Dudley Libraries invite you to the book launch of Sour Face, a powerful account of the life of a victim of domestic abuse by M J Cox at Dudley Library on Saturday 27th September at 14:30. Entrance is free and refreshments are served from 14:00. Written in the first person, Sour Face is a powerful account of the life of a victim involved in a domestic abusive relationship. As the story progresses the author links various theories of domestic abuse to incidents described in the text, as the victim tries to make sense of what is happening to her. The book attempts to educate the reader regarding the complex psychological issues regarding control and domestic abuse. The book gives hope as the author relates the transformation of the main character form a victim into a survivor of domestic abuse. About the author. M J Cox is in her forties and lives in Birmingham. Involvement in a two year turbulent, all consuming relationship resulted in the destruction of Mary’s confidence and self esteem. In order to combat these feelings of inadequacy Mary discovered writing as a form of therapy. As a result of these notes, plus extensive research of domestic abuse and contact with fellow survivors the manuscript Sour Face developed. Mary wrote Sour Face for two reasons: 1. To help victims realise that is what in fact there are. Victims. 2. To raise awareness of an issue that continues to be hidden away by British society. Mary originally trained as a nurse. She now works at a management level within the health care profession. |
