Big Book Fortnight

The Big Book Fortnight is an annual celebration of reading where libraries and venues across Wolverhampton, Walsall, Dudley and Sandwell host a series of special events.  Below is a listing of events taking place throughout the Black Country. 

Dudley Libraries:

Andrew Cope: author of Spy Dog and Spy Pup books, Andrew will launch our Big Book Fortnight.  Suitable for ages 7+

  • Saturday 19th May, 2.30pm to 4.00pm at Stourbridge Library.  Free event but booking essential.

 Jasper Fforde: author of 'The Eyre Affair' and 'One of Our Thursdays is Missing'.  Jasper is a popular fantasy novelist with a wide following.

  • Wednesday 23rd May, 7.15pm to 8.15pm at Dudley Library.  Tickets £3.00/ £1.50 conc.

 

'Funny Women': Emma Purshouse, Jane Seabourne, and Win Saha will be performing their poetry.  An evening of witty, light verse that will pack a punch, this is performance poetry at its best!

 

Mil Millington: author of 'Things My Girlfriend and I Have Argued About' which inspired the hugley popular website of the same name. Join Mil on this unique event of funny stories and tons of laughs.

  • Wednesday 30th May, 7.30pm to 8.30pm, at Halesowen Library. Tickets £3.00/£1.50 conc.

Walsall Libraries:

Mark Billingham and Val McDermid: two award winning TV and crime writers

 

Raphael Selbourne and Bobby Nayyar: Well known authors which explore the subject of culture and identity.

  • Tuesday 22nd May, 2.30pm to 3.30pm, Pleck Library. Free event.

 

Christina Jones: Award winning writer renowned for her engaging romantic comedies.

 

Phillipa and Nell Dixon: Award winning local writers from the Romantic Novelist Association.

 

Jak Beula: Author, columnist, song writer, musician, social-worker, former model, and creater of the Nubian Jak board game.

 

Wolverhampton Libraries:

Bobby Nayyar: Born in Handsworth in 1979, and Managing Director of Limehouse Books.  Bobby talks about his work and his writing.

 

Black Country Dialectics: Entertaining look at Black Country History with Dave Reeves and friends.

As part of Big Book Fortnight we held a live online Book Doctor service.
