Thanks to a £37,000 grant from the Learning Revolution Transformation Fund, Dudley Archives and local History Service are embarking on an exciting new oral history project called Dudley web: past and present.

Our latest project celebrates our hertiage and local culture in capturing the living memories of the borough for future generations. We are recording the experiences of over 20 local businessmen and councillors, talking about their career highlights, what led them into their chosen field and the legacies which their companies left for the borough's local industry.

These recordings will be available online and at Dudley Archives for eveyone. If you would like to share your memories or volunteer to help with this venture, please get in touch.

Archivists across the Black Country celebrated an award of over £400,000 from the Heritage Lottery Fund to open up access to the rich archive collections in their care.

The ‘Documenting the Workshop of the World’ project totaled over £500,000 and saw the digitisation of over 10,000 historic images charting the development of the Industrial Revolution in the Black Country, as well as the cataloguing of a series of archives from businesses across the region.  The project involved a team of 5 specialist staff who spent 3 years uncovering archive material and adding it to the computer catalogues.

This project raised public awareness of the archive services we continue to encourage people to discover more of the fascinating history of their part of the Black Country.
