Beyond the cellarage
some 2 metres below the square's surface adjacent to Carvers cafe are
the remains of an apparently domestic well which had a surprisingly fine
sandstone "collar" or coping. A brick-lined drain runs past it which is
similar to others excavated on the site. These drains are apparently
associated with attempts at land drainage prior to the construction of
Dudley Flint Glassworks. Judging by the pool of water that collected
here the drain is still in good working order.
