Archaeology Gallery - Hand Axe
Only recently discovered, this ancient hand-axe is now thought to be one of the oldest man-made inplements in Britain.
The British Library has estimated that it is at least 200,000 years old !
At the thicker end, the axe has been chipped and moulded so that it can be held in a number of ways.
