Chalk drawing. During the first quarter of the 20th century, Brangwyn was one of Britain's most celebrated artists. He specialised in large scale mural paintings for public buildings, and he carried out commissions all over the world.

Each mural project involved making a number of preliminary figure studies while the artist worked out his composition.

The Art Gallery has a number of these drawings, some of which were presented to the Gallery by Brangwyn himself.
