ALETHOPTERIS

This specimen was found in the Coal-bearing rocks of Dudley, in the West Midlands of England. This is the foliage of a seed fern.

Although their foliage resembled that of modern ferns, they reproduced by means of seeds. Their seeds were up to 4 cm long. This variety of seed fern was a small tree and may have grown up to 4m (13 feet) tall.
