The new Duncan Edwards & Local Sporting Heroes Gallery currently hosts an exhibition football memorabilia of Dudley's most famous footballer - Duncan Edwards. Later on will be added information about Dudley's other local sporting heroes such as Dorothy Round and maybe Sam Allydyce.
Duncan Edwards, the Dudley born star of Manchester United and England in the mid to late 1950s. His manager, Sir Matt Busby said of him that 'he was the most complete footballer I have ever seen'. Dudley museum has been fortunate to receive the support of Dudley Leisure Centre and the leisure team at the Directorate of the Urban Environment who have transferred the collection of Duncan Edwards memorabilia from Dudley Leisure Centre to the Museum. Duncan Edwards' 18 England caps are among the exhibits in the Museum.
2008 marks the 50th Anniversary of the Munich air disaster on the 6th February and the subsequent death of Duncan Edwards some 15 days later on the 21st February.
