Exhibitions at the Glass Museum
Tyzack Gallery The Tyzack Gallery was created in 1994 and has hosted many exhibitions since then. It is named after one of the first recorded glassmaking families in the area: 'April 26, 1612, John Tysacke, the sonne of Paul Tysacke and Bridgett his wafe was bapt' recorded in the Kingswinford Parish register.
Exhibitions in this gallery are predominately historic and have included everything from Roman glass to Okra studio glass, glass owls to Lalique scent bottles, and everything in between.
The Glassmakers Gallery Studio glass artists have often exhibited at Broadfield as part of the exhibition programme but in 2001 the Glassmakers Gallery was created to provide contemporary makers with a dedicated exhibition space. Currently there are 2 - 3 exhibitions per year held in the Gallery, including a mix of solo and group shows and sometimes incorporating other media. Previous exhibitions have included studio glass from the Museum's collection, work by occupants of the Scholarship Studio, mixed media shows such as Glass Threads (pictured) and The Art of Fire, and solo shows by artists such as Helen Millard and Jonathan Harris.
The Museum provides a varied programme of events to appeal to a wide range of audiences and to promote different glass disciplines, including our ever-popular Paperweight Days and Bead Days when skilled glassmakers (such as Peter Holmes, pictured) are invited to the Museum to give special demonstrations.
Valuation days are held each year with auctioneers such as Bonhams and Fieldings as fund-raising events for the Friends of Broadfield House Glass Museum. Other events are family focused, such as the Christmas Festival and the JAM Club (Juniors at Museums) which runs during every school holiday.
To find out more about the programme of lectures and events organised by the Friends, visit the Friends of the Glass Museum web page. To find out more about the Museums Service's JAM Club, visit the Kidszone page.
The major event in every glass enthusiast's calendar is the International Festival of Glass, which takes place every two years throughout the Glass Quarter. For more information, visit our Festival page.
