Exhibitions in the Glassmakers Gallery The Glassmakers Gallery is a temporary exhibition gallery that was opened in October 2001. The primary aim of the gallery is to promote contemporary glass from local and national makers but we will also exhibit work in other mediums when appropriate. Exhibitions will last approximately three months. There is no charge for exhibiting and entrance to the Museum is free. How to apply If you would like to exhibit at the Glassmakers Gallery please contact
Glass Interpretation Officer Broadfield House Glass Museum Compton Drive Kingswinford West Midlands DY6 9NS.
You should include a CV and some slides or colour photographs of your work. These can be returned but it is helpful to keep these with your details on file.
Installing the exhibition Work is either delivered to the Museum by the exhibitor or collected by the Museum. Where it is delivered by the exhibitor, the exhibitor will be responsible for the item and insurance of the item until it arrives at the Museum. Exhibitions are mounted and dismounted by the staff of Broadfield House Glass Museum. The Museum staff will determine the layout of the exhibition, and the contents of the exhibition have to be agreed upon by both the Museum and the exhibitor.
Interpretation This will take the form of graphic panels and labels. The exhibitor is welcome to provide additional information (e.g. books, catalogues, postcards) which will be exhibited at the discretion of the Museum. The Museum is not able to produce catalogues for the exhibitions.
Private Views Exhibitions open on a Saturday. Private views are normally held on the first Saturday morning. Please note that the museum will be open to the public. The museum will send invitations to those on its gallery mailing list and exhibitors are welcome to have as many invitations as they require. The invites and refreshments for the private view will be organised and paid for by the Museum.
Commission The exhibitor does not have to offer all or any of their works for sale if they do not wish to. The exhibitor should inform the Museum of the prices of the work two weeks before the exhibition opens. The price should allow for commission of approximately 40% (exact amount negotiable) plus VAT on the commission. For example, if you wish to receive £100 for a piece, the selling price would be £147 (£100 + £40 commission + £7 (VAT 17.5% of £40)). Money from sales will be sent to the exhibitor from Dudley MBC.
Security and Insurance All work is insured while it is at the Museum and in transit if the work is collected by Museum staff. Where the work is delivered by the exhibitor they should insure the work until it arrives at the Museum. The exhibitor should inform the museum of the insurance value of the work prior to the exhibition. The Museum is fully alarmed at night and the gallery is adjacent to the reception which is permanently staffed during opening hours.
Marketing and Publicity Advertising and promotion of the exhibitions is paid for and undertaken by the museum. Press releases will be sent to local and national newspapers, and to newspaper and magazine listings. Exhibitors are welcome to make their own contacts if they wish. Posters and leaflets will be made and distributed at the discretion of the Museum and exhibitors may be asked to supply images of their work for promotional material. Information on exhibitors may also appear on the Museum website.
