Glass Opinion Service

Please note we are currently unable to offer an Opinion Service

We are always happy to try to help you identify any pieces of glass you may have, but please phone to book an appointment. Our regular identification day is the afternoon of the first Wednesday of each month, although if you are unable to visit the museum on these dates we will do our best to accommodate you at other times.

Please note that The Opinion Service aims to provide identifications only and the Museum does not accept responsibility for any action taken as a result of information given.

Book in Advance

Booking is essential in order to avoid disappointment. Curatorial staff are very busy and also work at other sites therefore it is unlikely that someone will be available to help you if you do not book in advance of your visit. Appointments are for approximately 20 minutes and due to the limited time we ask you not to bring more than three pieces.

Ask an opinion by email or post

If you are unable to visit the Museum in person, we will also do our best to answer postal and e-mail enquiries. Please ensure that you send:

  • Photographs or drawings (which will be returned if requested)

  • Full description of the item, including the colours, measurements, place and year of purchase

  • Description of any marks, lettering, labels or symbols.

PLEASE NOTE WE ARE CURRENTLY UNABLE TO OFFER AN OPINION SERVICE.

Donations

The Opinion Service is offered free of charge, but if you would like to express your appreciation for the service donations are always welcome.

For those calling in person, we have a donations pot situated in the Pavilion. For postal and e-mail enquiries, cheques should be made payable to "Dudley MBC".

All income from this service is put towards future purchases for the Museum collection.

Valuations

Please note that we do not give valuations as this is against museum regulations.

For valuations and advice on insurance values, we recommend you contact a reputable antique dealer or auction house.

Valuation Days are hosted by the Museum and run by the Friends of Broadfield House Glass Museum. Please see What's On at Broadfield House Glass Museum for more details.
