Buying Glass from Dealers and Antique Fairs
The following is a list of dealers and retailers who buy and sell antique, second-hand and collectable glass. For the new collector, it is probably best to start buying glass from a dealer who is a member of LAPADA (the Association of Art and Antique Dealers) or BADA (the British Antique Dealers' Association). Please contact the dealers directly to check whether they are members.
Although bargains can still be found in markets and car boot sales, sufficient expertise is needed to spot a treasure in the mass. Bargains can also be made at auctions, both in the auction houses and on-line. There are many on-line auction sites but the most popular is probably eBay, which regularly has a large number of glass items on offer.
You will find a list of local auction houses on the Valuing Your Glass page. Many auction houses' sales and antiques fairs are advertised in The Antiques Trade Gazette, a weekly newspaper, and The Collector, a specialist antiques magazine that also has a dealers directory with maps. Many of the larger fairs and antique events are also listed on the internet newspaper for the British antiques trade.
