'Discover Glass' is our new whole day experience for primary schools with links to: Art, Technology, Science, and History National Curriculum Morning activities:

Morning activities (museum staff led)

Glass detectives

An interactive tour around the site where children will search around the Cone looking for clues about it's past.

Hot glass blowing demonstration

Our glass blower will demonstrate some of the properties of hot glass whilst making a piece of studio ware.

Teachers will choose one of the following options:

  • Kiln fusing. Pupils will work in our fusing studio. They will design on paper and then decorate a glass tile; using frit, stringers and pre-cut pieces of coloured glass.

  • Glass engraving (suitable for 8 years+ / Year 4) Pupils will work in our fusing studio. They will have a go at engraving on a small piece of glass before designing and then engraving on a photo clip frame.

  • Glass painting. Pupils will be painting onto a glass photo clip frame. They will be encouraged to design on acetate prior to painting.

Afternoon activities (self-led)

All equipment and instructions will be sent out prior to your visit. Choose from a number of activities including: acetate vase design, marble games and handling box.

Cost

Kiln fusing. £5.25 per pupil

Glass engraving OR Glass painting. £3.75 per pupil

Please note: There is a minimal charge of £45 per session.
