History

Pedmore & Wychbury Football pitch
Pedmore & Wychbury Football pitch

The play area now know as Wychbury Park, was once home to the many old type’s of children's play-ground equipment. This area, among others, saw this type of equipment removed during the degrading in regard to Health and Safety in 1999. All of this quiet play area and Pedmore spinney, locally know as ‘the dump’, were once covered with extensive over growth, rubbish and grounds works residue, classing them as disused and unsightly. The local community re-developed the spinney to assist with the erosion of farmland, and formed a Friends group during 1999-2000. The group undertook fund raising initiatives to put in an 8ft high and 238 meters in length, colour treated fencing that now surrounds the Wychbury play area. Also added were the gates, to assist with resident fears in relation to crime and area disuse. A grant from Awards for All was utilised in draining the football pitch, along with further secured funding making other changes. Transforming Your Space funds have enabled undergrowth alterations and the development of pathways in keeping with the surrounding forest.
