| Two golds for Dudley borough Two local tourism heroes picked up gold in the Heart of England Excellence in Tourism Awards last night. Graham Worton, curator of Dudley Museum and keeper of geology for Dudley, walked away with the coveted Outstanding Customer Service Award while Broadfield House Glass Museum in Kingswinford was voted Best Small Visitor Attraction in the regional awards, beating off stiff competition from the Shropshire Hills Discovery Centre and Weston Park. Graham, along with the whole of the team from Broadfield House Glass Museum, were all on hand at last night’s ceremony in Coventry Cathedral to receive their awards from Midlands Today presenter Kay Alexander. Both winners will now go forward to represent the Heart of England region in the National Enjoy England Awards for Excellence organised by Visit Britain. There were nearly 100 entries from 57 businesses from across the West Midlands. Last year Annette Eardley, an administrator at the Red House Glass Cone in Wordsley, was presented with the Bronze Customer Service Award. Councillor Charles Fraser Macnamara, cabinet member for leisure and culture said: "I wish to extend my congratulations to Graham and the team at Broadfield. I am so pleased that their drive, commitment and passion for their work has been recognised. They and their colleagues at our attractions across the borough make Dudley a wonderful place to visit." Dudley Museum and Broadfield House were also recently recognised by the English Tourism Council as quality visitor attractions after being assessed through the Visitor Attraction Quality Assurance Scheme. |
