Halesowen Town Centre

The convenience of a town, the charm of a village
Halesowen stands on the border of the Black Country and Birmingham, and is exceptionally convenient for both. Dating from Saxon times, it features everything you would expect in a small to medium sized town whilst retaining the character and feel of the village it once was.

The town centre is dominated by the parish church of St John the Baptist which dates from 1083. Shoppers are spoiled for choice with many big name stores in the High Street and the covered Cornbow Shopping Centre, and there's a Farmers' Market on the second Saturday of every month. When it all gets too much, take time out from retail therapy in the town's friendly pubs and restaurants.

If you want to get active, there's an excellent swimming pool and leisure centre, cycling club and sports stadium - or if you're more of a spectator, why not take in a match at Halesowen Town, one of the oldest football clubs in England?

Halesowen is surrounded by some beautiful countryside. The ruins of the 13th century Halesowen Abbey are just outside the town, as is The Leasowes which was laid out by the 18th century poet William Shenstone and was one of the first natural landscaped gardens in Europe. A £1.8 million renovation project is restoring the site to it's former glory, creating a landscape as authentic as the original, but more robust to cope with 21st century visitors. The Shenstone Way links the town centre with Leasowes Park and takes you through this wonderful landscape. Walks led by the wardens occur every couple of months. Look on the events pages for more details.

There are plenty of other walks around the town of Halesowen including Hawne Basin, Coombeswood, Lutley, Illey and Lapal Canal.
