Details of major schemes

Pensnett scheme

Motorists are being warned to expect delays on the A4101 High Street as temporary traffic lights go up to allow essential congestion-busting work to be carried out from May 2017. This is expected to take 12 months to complete.

Three-way temporary lights will be in operation at the High Street / High Oak junction.  All traffic management for this closure and the Swan Street closure will be integrated to ensure both closures can occur at the same time.

The closures are required to assist with works that the utilities (gas and electric) need to carry out in the mouth of these junctions. Signed diversions will be in place.

Parkfield Road, Stourbridge: Network Rail work

Network Rail will be undertaking work to replace the railway bridge on Parkfield Road, Stourbridge (between Burnt Oak Drive and Vauxhall Road) from Monday 8 January until the end of May 2018.  Parkfield Road, Burnt Oak Drive and Vauxhall Road will be closed to facilitate this work.

Diversions for traffic will be put in place – using Church Street, Junction Road, Stepping Stones, Birmingham Street and vice-versa.

The work will also affect sections of the public right of way. Diversions for pedestrians will be via other footways alongside adjoining streets.

Access to the fire station and Burnt Oak Drive will be maintained and Network Rail is facilitating access to Age Concern on St John’s Road.

The majority of the work to remove and replace the structure will take place over the weekends of Saturday 24 February to Monday 26 February and Saturday 3 March to Monday 5 March.  The main bridge replacement works will be undertaken continuously over these weekends.

Bus operators have been informed of the work and are making arrangements to ensure there is little impact to services.

Part of the diversion works requires a temporary (non- pedestrian bridge) to be installed and this work will be undertaken during a series of short Saturday night possessions commencing 13 January 2018. Where possible as much of the works is programmed for normal day time working.

Any queries should be directed to Network Rail’s 24 hour helpline on 03457 11 41 41.   Details will also be live on their website soon, awww.networkrail.co.uk

UPDATE - February 14

Amco, for Network Rail, will need to close Vauxhall Road to safely facilitate a crane lift for the new bridge deck.  The crane lift is weather dependant, as it cannot operate in high winds.

The work should be completed in 3 days, however, 5 days have been allowed as a contingency measure to allow for weather conditions and any technical difficulties with the crane.

The work has been programmed with the intention that the closure will take place and work should be completed, over the weekend of 24th to 26th February 2018 but dates may change depending on weather conditions.

No separate diversion is required as Parkfield Road is already closed near the junction with Vauxhall Road.  Parking bays will be suspended in Vauxhall Road, and the existing One-Way Order will also be suspended to facilitate access arrangements.
