Become a blood and organ donor

transplant week

People across Dudley borough are being urged to help save lives by becoming a blood and organ donor.

Dudley Council has signed an agreement with the NHS Blood Transplant team to promote the importance of giving blood and signing up to the organ donor register.

It is hoped that the initiative will provide a significant increase in the number of Dudley borough’s residents who are on the ODR and a particular focus will be placed on increasing registration levels among Dudley’s black and Asian communities. The partnership will initially be in place for two years.

In the two years since the council made the landmark agreement with NHS Blood Transplant the number of people on the organ donor register has grown by 14 per cent.

The Mayor of Dudley, Councillor Steve Waltho, has also pledged to support the cause during his year in office as one of his official themes.

The council is supporting National Transplant week (September 7-13) to encourage people to think about becoming an organ donor.
