10 - Free parking could boost local trade

Please note this is an archived release - two hours free parking comes into force on April 16 2018. One-hour free carparking will continue until then.

Council bosses have confirmed plans to run a free parking trial in four areas across Dudley borough.

Shoppers visiting Dudley Council car parks in Sedgley, Dudley, Brierley Hill and Halesowen can enjoy up to two hours of free parking from 24 April to 2 July.

People who want to take advantage of the trial will need to print and display a free parking ticket from the machines already in place. Normal charges will be in place for people parking for longer than two hours and return is prohibited within three hours of leaving.

Alan Lunt, strategic director for place, said:

“Dudley council wants to see if reduced parking charges could provide a boost to local trade. As a result, we will pilot a two hour free parking scheme in different types of retail centres across the borough to see how it impacts on numbers of shoppers.”

“I’m sure people will want to take advantage of this free period and we will be keen to see how results could influence future parking policies.”
