28 - Remembering night of terror, 100 years on

More than 100 years on a local author will remember the terror that reigned over the Black Country on one night during the First World War.

Author Ian Bott will be at Dudley Archives and Local History Centre on Thursday May 4 to present a special talk titled ‘The Midland Zeppelin Outrage’.

During the evening Ian will look back at the events of January 31 1916, a night during the Great War which saw the Black Country receive its heaviest bombing from two German Zeppelins.

Ian will talk about the long-lasting damage that was caused on that fatal night and how 35 lives were lost in homes and businesses.  He will also consider whether an imminent threat from the enemy was taken seriously prior to this dreadful event.

The talk begins at 7.30pm and refreshments will be served from 7pm.  Admission is free to Friends of Dudley Archives and Local History Service and £2 for non members.
