3 - Deadline extended to vote for borough’s young stars

Borough residents and young people have now got an extra week to nominate worthy young candidates for the tenth annual Dudley Youth Awards.

This year’s awards campaign is trying to get people to reveal the hidden achievements of any young person they work with or know who has been an inspiration over the last 12 months.

There are five main categories for young people to be nominated for including a new category this year for inspiration. This would acknowledge an extraordinary young person who has shown incredible commitment, courage, acted as a role model and is compassionate.

Individual nominees are also being sought for awards in arts and entertainment, sport, contribution to school of college and the green award for improving local environment and in making their community a greener place.

Groups of young people can be nominated in the community, charity and voluntary award for those who have made an impact on the lives of others in the local community.

Anyone can nominate a young person who lives in the borough who is aged between 11 and 19 (up to 25 for young people with a disability) for any of the above categories.

For the final category only young people can nominate for the Mary Growcott award, which is for an inspirational adult who has made a difference to the lives of youngsters. Mary Growcott was a local lady who dedicated her life to helping young people and this is awarded in her memory.

Councillor Tim Crumpton, cabinet member for children’s services, said:

“This is the tenth year of the Dudley youth awards and every year there are tears and laughter at the ceremony.  It is a joyous occasion which celebrates the hard work and achievements of young people from across the borough.

“I would urge people to vote for any young person or group who have had a positive impact on their lives to make sure they get the recognition they deserve.”

Nominations can be made by completing the online form by visiting www.dudley.gov.uk or http://tiny.cc/m54vow to go straight to the online form.  The extended deadline for the nominations is Friday December 6.

Nomination forms can also be picked up from any youth centre, the youth service office at St James House, Trinity Road, Dudley or by calling 01384 815172 or 07827 836969.
