Unique event cinema productions and top live stand-up comedy dominate a bustling programme of upcoming shows at Dudley borough halls.

Theatregoers have the chance to experience the very best of British theatre in Stourbridge, without needing to travel to London or Stratford-upon-Avon.

The unique National Theatre Live programme continues throughout 2017 with shows broadcast live directly from the stage to Stourbridge Town Hall’s large cinema screen.

Upcoming highlights include Peter Shaffer’s iconic play Amadeus on Thursday, February 2, followed by Bernard Shaw’s classic Saint Joan on Thursday, February 16 – starring former Bond girl Gemma Arterton as Joan of Arc. Other future shows include Hedda Gabler and Twelfth Night.

Each production is filmed in front of a live theatre audience with cameras positioned throughout the auditorium to ensure that the live cinema audience always get the best possible seat in the house.

Follow-up ‘Encore’ screenings are also taking place for those unable to attend the live broadcasts.

Theatre fans can also look forward to the Royal Shakespeare Company’s new ‘Rome’ season, with Julius Caesar, Antony & Cleopatra and Titus Andronicus set to be beamed live to the cinema screen.

Stourbridge Town Hall's popular fortnightly Monday Movie Matinees continue throughout 2017 with a fresh selection of blockbuster titles including Bridget Jones's Baby and A Street Cat Named Bob.

The Town Centre venue also continues to play host to the long-running Kum-n-avaloff comedy nights on the first Thursday of each month, featuring the best new and established stand-up talent.

Multi-award winning comedian Russell Kane brings his blisteringly-funny solo show ‘Right Man, Wrong Age’ to Stourbridge on Sunday, April 30, followed by critically acclaimed grouchy, deadpan comedy genius Rich Hall on Friday, May 17.

Dudley Town Hall has its fair share of stand-up talent on display in 2017 with local comedy legend Jasper Carrott appearing at the venue for two successive nights in April, followed by professional grumpy old woman Jenny Eclair on Thursday, May 18, shock-haired master of wordplay Milton Jones on Friday, September 29, and celebrated Cornish comedian Jethro on Thursday, December 7.

The Soul Survivors, one the country’s finest exponents of classic soul music, take to the stage in Dudley on Saturday, February 4, with support from The New Amen Corner.

Soul music fans can get their dancing shoes on for Dudley’s Big Soul, Motown and Disco Party on Saturday, February 18, as well as regular 70s Disco and Motown and Club Soul nights.

All Star Superslam Wrestling also makes a return to Dudley on Friday, February 17.

Matinee performances at Dudley Town Hall throughout 2017 include The Good Old Days of Variety starring special guest Anita Harris on Tuesday, March 14, and London’s leading West End show band Too Darn Hot presenting The Wonderful West End on Tuesday, May 16.

Councillor Khurshid Ahmed, cabinet member for regeneration said:

“This is an incredibly strong line up at town halls with something for all tastes and ages.

“There’s drama with National Theatre Live, comedy with talented performers like Rich Hall and Jenny Eclair, entertainment for children with ‘The First Hippo on the Moon’ and of course, lots of music at Dudley Town Hall with disco, soul and motown. I’m sure local audiences will find something to entertain them at borough halls this spring season.”
